Children's Home Society is the oldest and largest organization
providing support services for children and their families. Founded
in 1902 as an orphanage in Jacksonville, CHS has grown to 14
divisions throughout Florida and has become the state's premier
child welfare organization. In 1964, the North Coastal division was
opened in Daytona Beach to provide more accessible services to
'at risk' children and families in need in Volusia, Flagler
and Putnam counties. Last year, approximately 1,100 children
received services through programs offered by the North Coastal
Division. Programs and services offered locally include foster
care, emergency shelters and group residential homes, family and
individual counseling, supervised visitation services for
non-custodial parents, family therapy, and independent living
skills training for teens aging out of the foster care system.
Recently CHS partnered with Daytona State College to operate the
Lab School, a nationally accredited early learning center.
